The Great American Eclipse 2017
I had been planning a trip to be somewhere on the centerline of The Great American Eclipse for two years just to be a part of the phenomenon. As I started reading up on the photographic aspect, it was overwhelming, with most experts suggesting that if you had never shot an eclipse before it would be best to observe rather than to try to photograph it and miss actually seeing it or not getting any shots. I managed to do both and I’m pleased with the results (for a first timer).
Our destination was about 30 miles east of Shoshone, Wyoming through gravel roads and then a dirt track to an old gas well site that had been reclaimed. Expecting to see crowds of campers, we arrived two days in advance and had the area all to ourselves the first night. A few other campers showed up the following day.
I have to say it was well worth the 370 mile drive (one way) to see this. It was the most amazing natural phenomenon I have ever witnessed. The beauty and surreal quality of totality was beyond words! Put it on your bucket list for the next one on April 4, 2024. These are four versions of Totality and one "Diamond ring effect"
