Red Rock Pass, Idaho
For years I have been hearing about Red Rock Pass. Its main claim to fame is that 14,000 years ago Lake Bonneville breached its containment at this point and created a flood unimaginable in modern times. You can enlarge the sign photo below for more info, or better yet Google"Red Rock Pass, Idaho" for some amazing information. Because I only live about 2 hours away I have wanted to go see it, and I finally did this spring. There is no water there anymore as Lake Bonneville has evaporated to become what we now know as Great Salt Lake (miles away now). The flood gouged out the perfect thoroughfare for trains, a highway and two separate high power lines; not the most scenic but still a very interesting place to visit and imagine the flood.
